Oil painting again :)
Hey hey HEY!!! I'm back! And with paintings in hand (digital hands anyways). All these were done in an oil painting class I've been taking recently at AAI (the newest is at the bottom). If you could, lemme know what you think ^_^
Oh and a little backstory to explain the again (if you care to read): Towards the end of last year, I had helped a friend with a mural using acrylic paints. Watching her work got me thinking how much I missed painting :( Being unsure where to start (as the last/only time I worked in oils or color theory, for that matter, was sophomore year of college), I decided a classroom setting would be best. And so far, so good...

DRAW!!!
I recently met up with a friend at Barnes and Noble. To my surprise, what started out as us working on our respective areas of study turned into him asking me to prove my worth as an artist. I accepted and the second picture is the result. He wanted a drawing of Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint, for a tattoo he wants to get.
As I seem to have only been doing studies recently (see my DA page and the Calvins above), I struggled a bit with doing an original drawing (he did give me a couple references), but alas, there was light at the end of the hour and a half tunnel. Long story short, he was more than happy with it and I was glad to oblige. So overall... SUCCESS!!!

What's black and white and red all over?

If you said newspaper, you're right. I was trying to transition that into the subject of my post, but to no avail - so much for being clever. In other news, the above drawings are film studies from Disney's One Hundred and One Dalmatians (from 1961, not the live action remake). For the most part, these are posted in the order I did them in.
As much as I love this film (and I will talk your ear off about it... literally), doing these studies made me appreciate this animated classic that much more: the drawings are just as beautiful still as they are moving!!! And look at those purr-ty silhouettes (hey, c'mon, I had to do it and yes, there is a cat in the film).

The Simpsons Character Layout Test

This is The Simpsons Character Layout Test (and yes, all work copyright FOX and all that jazz) I started... well, the first half of it, anyways. In all fairness, I should have had it done and turned it into Film Roman many moons ago. But alas, I put it on the backburner and haven't touched it in a little over a year. When I was working on it, though, I had heaps of help from the AMAZING Chance Raspberry. If you don't know who he is, you should. He just finished his new website and I am personally inviting the world (that's you) to check it out here: http://www.hirechanceraspberry.com/. I am in the midst of figuring out my animation goals for the next couple months and this little guy may make the cut. If that happens, I will post the completed test. I repeat, I WILL POST THE COMPLETED TEST!

Devious Update
To the three people that read my blog (I'm referring to me, myself, and I), I have uploaded what I feel is my best/ most polished stuff (apart from my life drawings) onto my Deviant Art Page. But how, Tony? How do we find your Deviant Art Page? Well, funny you should ask. I have included a link on the right hand side of this site. Most of the work is old, but there are new pieces and I believe this will be where I will primarily post my new art. Still not satisfied? Alright, with Halloween being around the corner, here is something spooky to entice all you boys and ghouls to visit.

Life Drawing A Go Go!
Saturday, May 30, 2009

Two more life drawings from the last couple of weeks. This post and the previous post were all long poses. As I am unsure if these drawings have the same weight as gesture drawings (in regards to animation), I would appreciate any feedback/ advice as to people's experience with putting long poses in an animation portfolio.

The colors, Duke! THE COLORS!!!
Saturday, March 28, 2009

So... I finished two more pages. The backgrounds are from my thesis film. The thesis was completed this past May, but I'm slowly improving some parts that I felt needed work.
That good looking guy above is a magician from my character design class a couple years ago. Sadly, another victim cast to the island of misfit drawings (well, at least until I correct the turnaround).
